This file describes how to use MUSASHI. Please read it thoroughly.
Start up
1.Starting up MUSASHI for the first time.
The dialog prompts you to determine user name and password. The user name and password are used under multi-user mode. But you need to determine them under single user mode. They are not POP user ID and POP password.
2.Version-up from 1.x version.
MUSASHI converts old preferences at starting-up automatically. It might take long time if you have large number of mails.
3.Under multi-user mode.
The dialog prompts you to select a user and input password.
4.Under single user mode.
MUSASHI will check your password when you check Check for password at start-up.
*You can switch user mode in Misc category on preferences dialog.
Preferences
In case you use MUSASHI for the first time, preferences dialog will be shown immediately. And you can always set preferences by selecting Preferences… on File menu.
The preferences dialog has 4 categories. You can switch category with each tab control.
+Account
Account category have two sub categories, Servers and Misc.
In Servers category, you can set mail server address, your mail address and so on.
In Misc category, you can set default signature, attachment encoding and so on.
+Mail
Setting for Replying, forwarding, viewing and managing mails.
+Display
Setting font and colors for each window. And you can set mail hilight colors.
+Misc
Other setting.
Windows
MUSASHI has mainly following 6 type windows.
+Main Window
For managing mail boxes. You can create, rename and delete mail boxes. Main Window is always displayed.
+Mail Viewer
For vieweing mails in each mail box. You can control replying, forwarding, moving and copying mails.
+Virtual Mail Viewer
Very similar to Mail Viewer. Virtual Mail Viewer will shown when receiving new mails and finding mails.
+Mail Editor
For creating and editting messages.
+Address Book Editor
For editting address book.
+Signature Editor
For editting sigantures.
Each window has command buttons at the top of the window, which enable the operation of various commands. Move the mouse cursor onto a particular button, then the command is shown.
Managing the Mail Boxes
After startin-up MUSASHI, the follwing mail boxes are shown.
+InBox
For newly received messages.
+OutBox
For newly composed and sent messages.
+Trash
For unused messages archived. Actually they will be deleted when you execute Empty trash… command.
+Public (only under multi-user mode)
For public messages all users can use.
1.Create new mail box.
You can create new mail boxes by clicking Create new mail box… button on Main Window or selecting New… on Mail Box menu. You can also choose icon for new mail box.
2.Rename mail box.
You can rename mail boxes by clicking Rename mail box… button on Main Window or selected Rename… on Mail Box menu. You can't rename default 4 mail boxes described above.
3.Change icon for mail box.
You can change icon for mail boxes by selecting Change icon… on Mail Box menu.
4.Delete mail box.
You can delete mail boxes by clicking Delete mail box… button on Main Window or selected Delete… on Mail Box menu. You can't delete default 4 mail boxes described above.
5.Share mail box.
About mail box sharing describe after.
Mail Sending
To create new messages, browse Mail Editor by clicking New Message… button on Main Window or selecting New… on Mail menu. And to send message, click Send… button on Main Window. Mail Editor has following functions.
1.Use address book.
You can input entries from address book to destination addresses. Press buttons right of To:, Cc: or Bcc: label, and select group or entry from popup menu.
2.Select signature.
3.Attach file.
To append attachment, click Append attachment… button. To remove attachment, click Remove attachment button.
4.Select attachment encoding.
5.Select output code.
If you don't use Japanese, Quoted-Printable is best choice. MUSASHI automatically select US-ASCII or Latin character set and encode 8 bit characters.
6.Select source account.
Click New Message… button on Main Window with pressing option key, you can select source account from popup menu. You can also set default account in Misc category on preferences dialog.
Mail Receiving
To receive new mails, click Check mail… button on Main Window or select account from Check mail on Mail menu. When you click Check mail… button on Main Window, MUSASHI select default account. You can set default account in Misc category on preferences dialog. Click Check mail… button with pressing option key you can select account from popup menu.
After receiving mails, Virtual Mail Viewer will be shown with new mail list.
Mail Browsing
Double click the icon for each mail box, Mail Viewer will appear on the screen. Mail Viewer has two parts, List and Viewer. To switch focus, Click each part or press tab key.
1.Browse message.
Select mail by clicking mail on List, You can see the contents in Viewer. When you browse mail, it will be treated as opened mail. If you want to see mail contents without openning mail, click mail with option+command key.
Press space key to scroll down mail contents and towards the next message's beginning. Press delete key to scroll up.
2.Paging message.
The capacity of Mail Viewer to show texts at one time is up to 24k. When the size of a mail is beyond the capacity, the button down side becomes operative to switch the page. Click it and move them into several pages to browse.
Mail Managing
1.Mail information.
Double click the mail on List on Mail Viewer, detailed information about the mail appears on the screen. And you can edit subject and mail status.
2.Select mail.
You need to select mail to use following functions. You can select/deselect one or more mails by clicking mail with shift key or command key. And you can also select mails by dragging mouse.
3.Replying/Forwarding mail.
Click Reply…, Reply to all…, Forward… or Forward directly… button on Mail Viewer or select Reply…, Reply to all…, Forward… or Forward directly… on Mail menu, Mail Editor will appear and you can reply and forward mail. You can't reply and forward local mail.
4.Edit mail.
Click Edit… button on Mail Viewer or select Edit… on Mail menu, Mail Editor will appear and you can edit mail. You can edit only local mail.
5.Send mail.
Click Send… button on Mail Viewer or select Send… on Mail menu, you can send mail. This function is useful for sending multiple mails at one operation.
6.Move/Copy/Delete mail.
Click Move message to… or Copy message to… button on Mail Viewer or select Move… or Copy… on Mail menu, dialog will appear to select destination mail box and you can move or copy message to another mail box. Click Move message to… or Copy message to… button on Mail Viewer with option key, you can select destination mail box from popup menu.
Click Delete message on Mail Viewer, the messages will be moved to Trash.
Drag selected mails on Mail Viewer and drop it onto the mail box icon on Main Window, or List par on Mail Viewer, you can move mails. And drag with option key, you can copy mails.
7.Append sender to address book.
Click Append sender to address book… button on Mail Viewer, you can append sender of selected mail to address book.
8.Sort mail.
Click Name, Date or Subject label on Mail Viewer, you can sort mails. And you can change order with Drag & Drop operation.
9.Find word.
Click Find Word… button on Mail Viewer, you can find word from viewed mail contents.
10.Save as TEXT file.
11.Print mail.
Address Book
You can check the frequently used addresses with you own address book. Select Edit Address Book… in the Options menu for editing.
The address book is designed to divide a large number of addresses into groups that provides you with easy check. The address book is designed to make entries by grouping separately. Put the name of group or entry of the address book on the receipient's space. The name is changed automatically into the e-mail address meantime. However, if you appoint a name of group, the mail is sent to all of the group members.
1.Create/Rename/Delete address book group.
Click New Group…, Rename Group… or Delete Group button on Address Book Editor, you can create, rename or delete address book group.
2.Sort group.
Click Sort Groups button on Address Book Editor or Drag & Drop operation, you can change order of address book groups.
3.Create/Rename/Delete address book entry.
Click New Entry…, Rename Entry… or Delete Entry button on Address Book Editor, you can create, rename or delete address book entry.
4.Sort entry.
Click Sort Entry button on Address Book Editor or Drag & Drop operation, you can change order of address book entries.
5.Move entry.
Drag entry and drop onto a group in group list, you can move entry to another group.
6.Insert to Mail Editor.
Drag group or entry and drop onto a Mail Editor you can insert group or entry as destination address.

Signature
You can control several signatures for mail which should be signed at the bottom of the message. Select Edit Signatures… in the Options menu for editing.
1.Create/Rename/Delete signature.
Click New Signature…, Rename Signature… or Delete Signature button on Signature Editor, you can create, rename or delete signature.
2.Sort signature.
Click Sort Signature button on Signature Editor or Drag & Drop operation, you can change order of signatures.
Filter
In MUSASHI, you can change mail boxes for automatic saving of particular messages or highlight them by filter function. To define filter function, select Edit Filters… in Options menu.
Template
Import message and address book
You can import external messages and address book by selecting Import Messages or Import Address Book on Options menu. If the file to be imported includes attachment with correct format, MUSASHI extracts them.
+Eudora message
Select .toc file of Eudora, you can import Eudora messages.
+Plain text
Select plain text file with correct format, you can import message from plain text file.
+Eudora nickname
Select Eudora nickname file, you can import Eudora nicknames.
+UNIX aliases
Select UNIX /etc/alias styled file, you can import addresses.
Mail Box Sharing
In multi-user mode, each user has personal mail boxes. Other co-users can not use the box and read the messages. Meantime, with mail box sharing function, you can use a particular mail box with particular co-user. Select a mail box to be shared on Main Window and click Export Mail Boxes… or select Export… in Mail Box menu for set-up. After the dialog appears on the screen, decide the condition with your co-user. Your co-user see the shared mail box at each boot that appears automatically.
To cancel sharing, select the mail box on Main Window and click Unexport Mail Boxes button or select Unexport in "Mail Box" menu.
Your co-user can neither change the name of shared box nor delete it. The mail box will exist until the original user cancel or delete it.
